Looking For Car Hire Insurance?

Car Hire Excess

The cover needs to meet at least the minimum level required by law in the country in which you are driving. With respect to accidental damage to the car you are hiring, you probably want to know just what is covered, since there is almost certainly an excess for you to pay in the event of an accident, how much is that going to be.

You are almost certain to ask yourself how much the insurance costs and whether it represents good value for money – or is simply a rip-off, and you might want to ensure that you are able to buy the cover you need as easily and as quickly as possible.

Buy As You Hire

As far as convenience, immediate cover and insurance that meets the local minimum requirements are concerned, an obvious choice might be the package offered to you by the car rental company – you simply sign up for the deal when you take delivery of your hire car at the check-in desk.

The problem with this solution, however, is not only establishing just what is covered in the package you may be tempted to buy but the invariably high cost of any excess insurance to top it up (and with excesses running from anything between a few hundred and well over a thousand pounds, you might well want the security of such cover).

Buy Before You Hire

Wherever in the world, you are planning to travel, you probably already know whether you are going to be hiring a car along the way.

A sensible precaution maybe to reserve the rental vehicle of your choice before you set off on your travels.

But advance planning does not have to stop there. You may also choose to arrange quite separate, standalone car hire excess insurance before you go – a product which we here at Bettersafe make it our business to know inside out.

The cover is quite separate from any booking or car rental agreement you may sign. For a one-off payment – rather than the daily rate typically charged by a car hire company – you may gain peace of mind in knowing that any excess associated with a repair bill will typically be covered by the insurance you had arranged before your trip.

Simply remember to hold onto any invoice or other documentation you receive from the hire car company, pay the excess demand, and on your return home you are able to claim full reimbursement of that expenditure.
